When I think about being psyched, I picture feeling more than amped, but slightly below stoked. It’s a good place to be, for sure, and implies a great deal of energy. The high-energy implication is what makes the title of this 1997 remix CD slightly misleading.
Psyched remixes tracks from Sega racing games such as Manx TT, Sega Rally, WaveRunner, Indy 500, and of course, Daytona USA. But instead of remixing them into pounding dance numbers, the artists decided to give them more of a techno slow jazz feel.
This style is maintained throughout the album. Some tracks, like Get Going from Manx TT, hint at an increase in tempo, but then bring it back to a speed consistent with the rest of the disc. This is not necessarily a bad thing however. The album’s consistency makes it perfect for listening to straight through when you’re in the appropriate mood. It’s just a matter of figuring out what that mood is. Thrillaxin maybe?
